Grammer Corner: Commas

Commas have traditionally been a problem. When do I use them and when should I rewrite to omit them. The comma is a such a versatile tool that I am learning when and when not to use them. I have trouble with them because there are times I would like the reader to pause and I found out that is grammatically incorrect to add them. UUHHHHG!

The rule I will share with everyone today is: Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Use one comma before to indicate the beginning of the pause and one at the end to indicate the end of the pause. This can be found at:
